Hey, Nephew, I haven't slept so well in a long time! This rhythm thing is very good.

Yoohpey! Let the party begin! Again and again! Keep the rhythm!
-
Dear reader, have you found the rhythm? Your rhythm? Don't give up! It's not too hard. Start with the square, or cube. It's simple and easy to understand. Draw a square. Use a ruler, because it has rhythm. Draw a vertical line. Then, from the bottom of that line, draw a horizontal line with the same length. You already have half of a square. Now in the top side of the first line, draw another horizontal line, the same length as the lower one. Close up the shape with a vertical line connecting the two horizontal ones, and you have a square with equal sides. That's the rhythm.

-
So Nephew, what's up with rhythm? You draw a line, and then?
-
That's it, Grandpa! Just keep drawing equal lines horizontally and vertically to get a square. That square is the body of your character. Then, draw a horizontal line around the middle of the square. The legs are in the lower part, so cut that part down the middle with a vertical line. Done with the legs. In the top side of the square you can make the hair. Draw a horizontal line, and there you have your hair. Below that, draw two smaller squares for the eyes. Inside them, draw two more, even smaller squares, for the pupils. In the middle, below the eyes, draw a small square, and that's your nose. Below the nose draw a rectangle and there you have your character. Now colour them in however you want, and you have your very own character.
-
Nephew, can you repeat again? You lost me after draw a square... all I heard was square, square, square.
-
That's right, Grandpa! You've got the rhythm!

Yoohpey! Party squares!

Now that you drew the character, let's make the toy. The easiest way is to get coloured clay. Make a cube out of the colours used in the drawing. Break off the clay and press it until you have equal squares of different colours. Use one colour for the hair, another for the face and another for the legs. Make a cube out of these clay squares. Keep the rhythm! Then, make the little details like the eyes, nose and mouth, and you've finished your toy! Practice until you like what you see. Practice with your family, your classmates and your friends!

-
So how is it, Nephew? You draw a square... and then what?
-
That's the point, Grandpa. You draw a square on a piece of paper, and then you draw another it to the right, the same size as the first one. Then another to the left, and above, and below, and yet another one below. Now you have an unwrapped cube, that if you cut out...
-
...you'll have a cross!
-
Yes, but if you bend it along all of the edges of the squares, you'll get a cube. And if you draw the eyes, mouth, nose hair and legs on the first one, you'll have a paper toy of your character made by you! This way, you can make as many as you want.

Yoohpey! Toy party!
-
I did it, Nephew! I drew a square. Even though it's a little crooked, my hands are shaky.
-
That's very good, Grandpa! Now that you have a toy, you need to give it a name. If you made more than one, give them all names, whether they're humans or animals. Then, you need to think of a story, something that's happened to you. Write that story in a dialogue, just like the episode in this article.
-
So, Nephew, I'll call this square, Square. And I'll take him to sleep, because he's very sleepy. Just look at how he's grouching, he's very drowsy.

Yoohpey! Party for Square the square!
-
Well done, Grandpa. You made a character that has a story. Square the sleepy square. That's the rhythm! Now we just need a poem.
-
I drew Square very fast, and put him straight to rest!
-
Good job, Grandpa! You kept the rhythm! And that's because with poems, there's a little secret. You need to have the same number of syllables in every line, or at least the lines that pair up. And they need to rhyme together, that means that the last words of both lines have to end with words that sound the same. That's the rhythm!

Yoohpey! Rhyming syllables party!
-
So, you have toys that have become part of a story, and you have a poem. Now it's time to start playing!
-
Well Nephew, I'm gonna go play sleep with Square. Who sleeps most wins!

Yoohpey! Game party!
-
And to be able to keep your rhythm for longer, you need energy. So you can cut out squares out of any food, and stack them on top of each other to make cube food. It's delicious!

Next time we'll find out how you can learn easier at school, how you can keep your rhythm. Until then, practice your drawing, story and poem writing for your character. And remember: Life is full of rhythm! Embrace it and follow it! That way you'll always succeed. Because, if you do something right, you'll also reap the right results, good results! Good luck to all of you!
-
Come, Square, let's go to sleep. I see you're very tired. At least I am. C'mon, keep that rhythm!
